To EAA Chapter 383 in Manitowoc (the accent is on the first syllable)- just 75 miles up the Lake Michigan shore from Milwaukee. Our membership is a diverse group of people whose common interest is in things that fly. Although we do have airplane owners and pilots among us, many members simply enjoy working on, riding in, watching and talking about airplanes.
We are also active in the Young Eagles program to get young people 8 – 17 years of age into the air in a light airplane. Our pilots are always ready to help in this effort to introduce more people to the fun and fascination of flight.
The Chapter was formed in 1971 and our members have been involved in national EAA at Oshkosh volunteering at the annual AirVenture convention (both before and during the show) for many years. For several years we hosted the Redstar Pilots Association formation-flying clinic just before the convention for their participation in the military formation flights at Oshkosh. For the last couple years we have been hosting the T-34’s prior to their mass arrival to AirVenture Oshkosh.
During the course of the year we do have pancake breakfasts, chili lunches, fly-outs and our annual September corn roast. Every June we take part in Thunder on the Lakeshore serving a pancake breakfast as well as being involved as part of the show staff.
Meetings are held in our clubhouse at the Chapter hangar (#22) at the Manitowoc County Airport on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. and guests are always welcome.
Chapter dues are $20 annually payable in January and membership in the national EAA ($40) is required. The dues entitle the member to participate in all Chapter events and receive the monthly newsletter ‘Thoughts Aloft’.
